Although the word "camp" may seem questionable at first, my most cherished memories have come welcoming community and fun activities that take place every year. Having been a camper since 2012, the warm and inviting atmosphere that the counsellors and staff bring with them was what made me want to come back every year. I admired the way that others would welcome and interact with the shy or new campers that did not have a place to initially fit in. It is because of this friendliness and warmth that always makes camp enjoyable and memorable.

Two years of attending LID Camp brought me two unforgettable summers. I loved the short week I spent away from my hovering parents, not just because of the brief freedom, but because of how I was able to connect with people bearing a similar yet unique background. I loved attending workshops that helped me better understand my future ahead, and also having fun with a family-like group that included everyone from staff to counselors to campers. I loved the strong sense of unity and friendship. I loved LID Camp.

My name’s Yvonne, and I went to LID camp the summer of my sophomore year. I didn’t know what to expect, but I loved meeting new people there with amazing personalities and interesting backstories. Over the course of five days, we did so many activities that required teamwork and communication, and gradually, I became more attached to the people that I figured I wouldn’t see again.
Besides the bonding events, I really enjoyed the workshops that were hosted. Between the college prep workshop and family based workshops, it gave me more of an insight to what I wanted for my life, and listening to my counselors’ talk about their experiences in school helped me better understand what I should do while I’m still in school and while I’m preparing for college.

Initially I was against the idea of going to a summer camp because I didn't think I'd be close with anyone and would rather stay at home but I went anyways because (i was forced to lol) I thought it'd be a good use of my time. I was really surprised though, because i ended up really liking camp. I made friends with the group I was in, got to share stories and lives and had fun with activities. Despite all the bugs and lack of technology, camp was really fun and I'd recommend anyone at the age range to join.

"Hi, my name is Iyan Chou and the reason why I got into camp in the first place was because my brother enrolled me because he went as a camper and he liked camp a lot. So he thought I would have the same experience if I were to join.When I joined camp I thought i was not going to like it, but that changed when we did our first few fun activities. What camp means to me is that we make new friends, have fun, and learn what it means to be Taiwanese, instead of staying at home doing nothing and being lazy.That is what camp means to me when I think about it every time. "Camp is fun in general with the games and activities but i think having people around me that are actually like me make camp a comfortable environment to be in. I think about every year when camp starts, and everyone is a stranger to each other. But camp is not over yet, and everyone's already so close. even though camp is only a couple days, you meet 20+ new people, and you learn so much about them. I think that is why i like camp so much. Being in a different environment that is not your home makes you a different person like you have a home personality and an outside personality, and being at camp does not make me afraid to share my home personality."
